Sportingbet has partnered Malta-based real-money and social games software developer Wikibetting to launch a free-to-play sports betting product on Facebook.
The Facebook app allows clients to offer peer-to-peer betting using virtual currency. Users can challenge friends with bets on different football events, applying their own odds and setting a proposed amount to wager.
Wikibetting describes the product as a way for Sportingbet to tap into a new demographic of players, using Facebook’s global reach. It said they could even convert users into real-money players, by educating them about the sports betting process in a risk-free environment.
The supplier’s business development manager Mark Hothersall said: “It is great to have the likes of Sportingbet taking an interest so early with our social betting platform range, and helping us during our beta testing stage to further develop the products.
“Wikibetting offers a range of different platforms which can be Facebook based or directly integrated into the operator’s interface,” he added.
The launch marks Sportingbet’s first foray into gaming on Facebook since GVC completed its acquisition of the brand in 2013.
