Rank recruits distinguished director

British gambling giant Rank Group has appointed the former Minister for Northern Ireland, Sir Richard Needham, to its board as an independent non-executive director. 70-year-old Needham currently also serves as a non-executive director for Avon Rubber and Lonrho as well as being a non-executive chairman of Vane Minerals. He will assume his new post from 1 May .

Also known as the Sixth Earl of Kilmorey, Needham had a distinguished career in Parliament and was Britain's longest serving Minister in Northern Ireland serving from 1985 to 1992 before moving on to work as Minister of Trade from 1992 to 1995.

The Conservative left politics in 1997 and has since focused on the private sector and has been a director of a number of public and private companies including Biocompatibles International, The Heart Hospital Limited and Dyson Limited, where he was a director for over 16 years.
