South Philadelphia Turf Club launches Kambi sportsbook

18 January 2019

Kambi has strengthened its position in Pennsylvania's regulated sports betting market with the official launch of wagering at Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment's South Philadelphia Turf Club property.

The roll-out follows two days of ten-hour tests, and comes after last week's launch of sports betting at the operator's Parx Casino and Racing venue.

Consumers can now place legal sports wagers at the Turf Club after the off-track betting facility received clearance from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) to complete the launch.

The venue is located in Philadelphia’s major league sports neighbourhood, near to Citizen’s Bank Field, home of the city’s MLB team the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Lincoln Financial Field and Stadium, where NFL team the Philadelphia Eagles plays.

“The prime location of the South Philadelphia Turf Club offers Kambi a unique platform to reach some of Philadelphia’s most passionate sports fans who when going to support their teams also want some skin in the game,” Kambi chief commercial officer Max Meltzer said.

“Today’s successful launch provides further evidence of Kambi’s ability to deliver for its partners both online and on-property in a short space of time, making us the trusted choice for those looking to leverage their strong brand and provide their customers with high-quality sports betting experiences," Meltzer added.

Kambi now powers four of the five on-property sportsbooks in the state after the company last week launched its technology with Greenwood-owned Parx Casino. Greenwood is also set to work with Kambi on the planned launch of a sportsbook as its Valley Forge Turf Club in Pennsylvania, subject to regulatory clearance.

Aside from Greenwood, Kambi also works with Rush Street Interactive-operated Rivers and SugarHouse Casinos in the state. The only other location running a sportsbook in Pennsylvania is the William Hill-powered, Penn National Gaming-owned Hollywood Casino at Penn National Racecourse.

Kambi is also planning to roll out an online sportsbook with Parx Casino, once the PGCB gives operators the green light.

At present, consumers can use the Parx Betslip Builder mobile app to view odds and create bet slips from anywhere inside Pennsylvania. Using Kambi’s Bring Your Own Device technology, the app generates a QR code that players can take to either Parx Casino or the Turf Club to place their bet in person.

In December, Hollywood Casino, Rivers and SugarHouse Casino – the only three venues active with licensed services in the month – generated a collective $2m (£1.5m/€1.8m) in sports betting revenue off a handle of $16.2m. Rivers and SugarHouse Casino only began offering sports betting on December 14.
