PokerStars has revealed plans to hire a number of new staff to support its efforts to create a “fully-flexible artificial intelligence (AI) agent”.

Citing a number of job advertisements, the Pokernews.com website has said that the company is seeking to develop programs using AI “which will learn how to play” poker and potentially other games.

Current vacancies at PokerStars include roles at various levels, such as ‘Poker AI Research Engineer’ and ‘Graduate Poker AI Research Engineer’, with positions available at the firm’s offices in both London, England, and Dublin, Ireland.

PokerStars says the new roles offer a “challenge of researching the application of AI in one of the largest gaming communities in the world”.

The firm also said successful candidates will “be working on a number of high end products [PokerStars] wishes to bring to market and how AI interacts with this to help [PokerStars] learn from and analyse strategies developed through self-play”.

All of the current vacancies only refer to the PokerStars online poker service and it is not yet clear whether the new staff will focus on other areas of the business.
