OPAP has appointed Damian Cope as its new chief executive, following a decision by the Greek gambling company to restructure its management hierarchy.

Cope will begin his new role on July 1, with Kamil Ziegler, who had been serving as both chief executive and chairman, continuing to serve as executive chairman of the board under the new structure.

With over 18 years’ experience in the gambling industry, Cope joins OPAP having most recently served as managing director international at Ladbrokes.

Cope has also spent time with Sportium Apuestas Deportivas, Ladbrokes’ sports betting joint venture with Cirsa Group, as well as Gala Coral Group, Blue Square and Rank Group.

“I feel privileged to be taking on the role of chief executive of OPAP, a hugely respected brand both in Greece and around the world,” Cope said.

“Over the last three years under Kamil's strong leadership, OPAP has undergone significant change and made positive progress.

“I look forward to working closely with Kamil and everyone at OPAP in building an even brighter future for the company.”
