Former Madison Square Garden Company EVP to drive marketing at William Hill US

William Hill’s US division has appointed Sharon Otterman as its new chief marketing officer as part of its ongoing growth plans in the country.

Otterman was previously executive vice-president and chief marketing officer at the Madison Square Garden Company and also served in the same roles at media company NBCUniversal.

Earlier in her career, Otterman was vice-president of marketing at US sports broadcaster ESPN.

Speaking to iGaming Business, Otterman said: “As a huge sports fan and sports marketer, I am so excited to tap into the pent up consumer demand in the US, with a brand that fans trust.

“My goal is to continue the great work that has been done in Nevada to let fans fans know the William Hill brand across the US.

“As more and more states allow sports wagering, I see a new industry having positive impacts: sports TV ratings increasing, sports ticket sales increasing and sports betting overall becoming more mainstream.”

Otterman added: “The popularity of sports betting has never been higher.

“I am thrilled to join William Hill, the international leader in this industry, to help serve an expanding, engaged customer base.”

Otterman joins at a busy time for William Hill US, following the recent regulation of sports betting in a number of states across the US.

William Hill is now working with Monmouth Park Racetrack in Long Branch and Ocean Resort Casino in New Jersey after both venues began started taking sports bets in June.

Joe Asher, chief executive of William Hill US, said: “Sharon is a proven leader and we are thrilled that we could pull her away from one of the most high-profile jobs in sports marketing to join William Hill.”
