Ex-Zynga executive wins Nexon investment for start-up

10 September 2013

John Schappert, the former chief operating officer of social gaming company Zynga, has received an investment from Tokyo-based gaming company Nexon for his video gaming startup Shiver Entertainment.

According to Bloomberg, Nexon will gain the exclusive global publishing rights to the new PC and tablet titles being developed by Miami-based Shiver. In addition, Owen Mahoney, Nexon’s chief financial officer, will gain a seat on the company's board of directors under the terms of the investment agreement.

The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Schappert resigned from Zynga in August 2012 after he was relieved of a number of responsibilities for overseeing game development. He had been lured to the social gaming company from US game developer Electronic Arts after being offered a pay package worth a reported $42.8m (€32.5m).
