DraftKings expands MLB presence by partnering 27 teams
Daily fantasy sports provider DraftKings has moved to enhance its presence in Major League Baseball (MLB) by entering into partnership with 27 teams from the North American competition.
The series of new deals covers a number of franchises such as reigning World Series champion San Francisco Giants as well as the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and New York Mets.
However, the deal excludes Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks, which play in states that prohibit daily fantasy games as a form of gambling, as well as Canadian team the Toronto Blue Jays.
Under the new deals, supporters will have access to unique baseball contests and special experiences with their favourite teams, as well as exclusive content on the DraftKings mobile application.
The new deals will support an existing partnership DraftKings has in place with the MLB, under which it serves as the league’s official daily fantasy game.
DraftKings developed and now operates the $4 Million Fantasy Baseball World Championship, which gives fans the chance to win real-money prizes through fantasy sports games.
Jason Robins, chief executive of DraftKings, said: “Baseball is one of the fastest-growing categories in daily fantasy sports and our MLB partnerships ensure that we will continue to offer the sport’s most engaging fantasy games and experiences.
“The excitement and tremendous user engagement surrounding our $4 Million Fantasy Baseball Championship is further proof of the value of our relationships with MLB and its teams.”
