John Boyle, the founder and chief executive of Boylesports, is reportedly getting set to announce his retirement from the company.

Boyle, 61, founded Boylesports in 1982 and is expected to announce that a family member will replace him as chief executive.

Two of his daughters currently hold senior executive positions within the company and his son-in-law Conor Gray is director of international development.

Boyle told the Irish Sunday Independent newspaper: “I’ve been CEO now since 2012, and that’s not my gig; my gig was retail and going out and finding stores.

“But I’ve gone in and I’ve enjoyed it for five years; I’m ready this year to step back from the frontline of being leader.”

In 2014, Boyle announced he was looking for a replacement to take Boylesports to the UK market.

Boylesports was originally looking at taking on Ladbrokes and Coral sites in the UK, after the companies were forced to sell shops in order for their merger to go through.

However, the company lost out to Betfred, which acquired all 360 of the shops sold off.
