Boom Fantasy rolls out real-money product

In-game fantasy sports provider Boom Fantasy has launched a full roll-out of its real-money fantasy sports product.

Players can take part in 10-minute fantasy sports leagues that are centred on live events fans can watch on television.

All real-money contests incorporate multiple events, but are based on a primary game where players compete against each other by answering between seven and 50 questions, depending on the tournament format.

Questions are based around in-game events, such as if a player will score more or less than a certain number of points.

The platform is now live in California, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, with Boom Fantasy planning to launch in further US states later this year.

However, residents of all states can participate in free-to-play tournaments.

“Just as DraftKings and FanDuel improved upon the old fantasy sports model, we are doing the same with daily fantasy sports,” Boom Fantasy chief executive and co-founder Stephen Murphy said.

“At Boom, we cater to real fans who actually want to watch the games – not necessarily the number-crunchers who use complicated algorithms to outperform other line-ups.”

The launch comes after Boom Fantasy completed a successful seed round, during which it was able to generate $1.4 million (€1.3 million).

The round was led by angel investor and Zynga chief executive, Mark Pincus, the Stanford-StartX Fund, and Rubicon Venture Capital, and also included input from five Stanford business school professors, two professional athletes and various mobile gaming executives.
