Cyprus-based sports betting operator Bet on Alfa has joined the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA).

Cyprus-based sports betting operator Bet on Alfa has joined the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA).

Bet on Alfa will now have access to the integrity watchdog's monitoring and alert platform and can it to share suspicious activity reports with a network of other operator members.

“We are delighted to be the first Cypriot company joining this association,” Frixos Constantinides, director of Bet on Alfa said. “Betting corruption in sport is a growing threat to the business model of every operator. Our company recognises the importance of protecting our customers and sporting events from betting-related fraud and to meeting high standards of social corporate responsibility.

“The International Betting Integrity Association is the leading global player on integrity for our sector and membership brings an important layer of protection for our markets. It is a clear statement of our commitment to meeting the threat of match-fixing.”

Bet on Alfa is the fourth operator to join the IBIA since it rebranded from its previous name, the European Sports Security Association (ESSA), in June, after its scope had increased to the extent that 42% of alerts in 2018 were generated on activity outside Europe.

Bet on Alfa follows Bethard in joining the IBIA since its rebrand, after the Malta-based operator joined the association on 16 September.

In July, the IBIA reported that the number of alerts for suspicious wagering activity fell 17% year-on-year for the three months to June 30, 2019.
