888 signs up for new snooker tournament
Online gaming operator 888 has struck a deal to become the title sponsor of the new World Grand Prix snooker tournament.
Developed and run by the World Snooker governing body, the new competition will now be known as the 888.com World Grand Prix.
The first edition of the tournament will this year take place from March 16-22 at Venye Cymru in Llandudno, Wales.
The competition will feature 32 players who qualified from a unique ranking list that ran from the 2014 World Championship through to the 2015 Gdynia Open.
Players taking part in the inaugural event will compete for a top prize of £100,000 (€141,000/$150,000).
World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn said: “We are thrilled to welcome 888.com on board for this fantastic new tournament.
“They have shown tremendous support for snooker in the past and we are pleased to continue to build that relationship.”
