Judging by New Jersey, mobile is the future of US wagering. Almost all growth in the market is coming through the channel, to the point that its availabilty is as crucial a factor as tax rates in making or breaking legalized sports betting markets.

Despite this, many lawmakers remain wary about legalizing mobile wagering. Whether it is fears over the DoJ's enforcement of its revised Wire Act opinion from 14 June, or local lobbyists protecting their interests, New Jersey's numbers alone do not appear to be enough to convince officials in states such as New York of its importance.

Given their huge investment, igaming stakeholders will be hoping analyst Chad Beynon's expectation that legislators will heed the lessons from New Jersey and make mobile a higher priority proves well founded.
