mousesports triumphs in Counter-strike Global Offensive's GG.Bet ICE Challenge 2020

6 February 2020

Over the past three days, eight of the best Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams in the world have been fighting for domination at the GG.Bet ICE London Challenge 2020 to win a share of the $250K prize pool. With the winners banking $125K, the stakes were high.

The quality was oozing as mousesports (mouz), currently ranked 2nd in the world, headed the charge. Natus Vincere (NAVI) are currently ranked 8th and then ENCE eSports, Heroic, MAD Lions E.C, GODSENT, Virtus.pro (VP) and OG all came into the competition as one of the top 30 ranked teams globally.

Earlier group wins had seen mouz and NAVI afforded a bye into the last 4 while Heroic and the world ranked 11, ENCE were disappointingly eliminated early. The poor showing from ENCE was yet another failure in what has been a tough few months for them.

The semis were completed by Mad Lions who wiped out OG 2-0 and GODSENT who had a similarly easy victory against VP.

The crowds were beginning to flock into this new look eSports area at ICE with experienced and well-loved casting by @Sadokist & @HenryGcsgo entertaining the masses in Excel and the millions of people streaming the event through Twitch.

The competition has received huge support throughout with a large contingent from Russia and Ukraine cheering on their homegrown NAVI.

MAD Lions took on mouz in the first semi-final and a shock was on the cards as the Lions took the first round, but experience and consistency won through as mouz took it 2-1. NAVI didn’t have as much trouble as they ran out easy winners 2-0 against GODSENT.

With live streaming viewers peaking at 210K and the Arena at ICE standing room only, the stage was set for a fantastic finish - NAVI Vs Mouz.

The first round proved a painfully close affair with momentum sliding back and forth prior to Mouz taking it by 16-14. They continued strongly, taking the second round. NAVI needed a comeback and they needed it fast.

The third round did indeed start strongly for NAVI, who raced into an early lead with ChrisJ winning a huge map from 4 against 1. This momentous comeback inspired the team to a round win, bringing the score back to 2-1.

But class won through. Led by soon-to-be-crowned MVP, David "frozen" Čerňanský, mousesports triumphed to the backdrop of huge cheers from the crowd.

Speaking immediately following his victory, Frozen was almost lost for words, exhausted after a gigantium effort, “Feels amazing. It’s our 5th final in a row. We’ll keep grinding to the top. Can’t describe my feelings. Speechless!”

The fantastic tournament has been one of the highlights of ICE London and following massive support this year promises to grow.
