188BET Scores Betting Partnership with Liverpool Football Club

5 November 2009

188BET, the leading online gaming and entertainment company, has signed an agreement to become the official betting partner of Liverpool Football Club, one of the world’s most successful football clubs, it was announced today.

The agreement is the fifth deal that 188BET has signed with a Premier League Club in as many months, having signed similar betting partnership agreements with Chelsea FC and Aston Villa FC in August. 188BET also became primary sponsors of Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic earlier this summer, becoming the first and only company to be the shirt sponsor of two football clubs in the Barclays Premier League for the same season.

188BET, the world’s leading in-play betting specialist, will work with Liverpool Football Club on a number of major initiatives to take the 188BET brand to the Club’s extensive global fan base, especially in key markets such as South East Asia. The deal, which comes into effect immediately, will run for an initial three years.

Andy Scott, CEO of 188BET, said:

“Liverpool Football Club is a fantastic addition to our valuable stable of partnerships with Premier League football clubs. The strong heritage of the club coupled with its passionate and loyal global fan-base will allow us to reach a broad international audience. Liverpool Football Club is one of the world’s most recognized football clubs, and the combination of their glittering history, worldwide fan base, and exciting plans for the future, means this is a great partnership opportunity for 188BET.”

Ian Ayre, Commercial Director of Liverpool Football Club, commented:

“We are delighted to welcome 188BET to our family of partners. Their innovative approach to betting will enhance the fan experience, in addition to benefiting good causes through the 188 Foundation. Given 188BET’s presence in Asia, we will develop a number of initiatives that will mutually benefit our respective organizations. 188BET has made a clear commitment to marketing their brand through football, and we are looking forward to developing a successful partnership.”

The partnership with 188BET follows the announcement last month that Liverpool FC has agreed a four-year deal, starting in July 2010, for Standard Chartered Bank to become the club’s main sponsor - the largest commercial agreement in Liverpool’s history.

Liverpool Football Club

Liverpool FC is one of the world’s most famous football clubs. Founded in 1892, Liverpool is England's most successful club, winning a record 18 League Titles, seven FA Cups, seven League Cups, five European Cups and the UEFA Cup on three occasions. Liverpool can also lay claim to 15 Charity Shield wins and three European Super Cup successes.

The unprecedented success of the modern era began under legendary manager Bill Shankly and has continued through to the famous Champions League win in Istanbul when Rafael Benitez led his side to victory in May 2005, a game widely acknowledged as one of the greatest in footballing history.

Liverpool's passionate supporters, centered around the world famous Kop, also saw further success in the 2006 FA Cup and a second appearance in three years in the Champions League final 12 months later in Athens.

The Club continues to grow and is committed to the construction of a new 60,000 seat LFC Stadium. Liverpool FC has already invested significant sums in the restoration of nearby Stanley Park, the Isla Gladstone Conservatory and other regeneration initiatives in the Anfield area. Its outstanding work in the local community has recently been recognised by the award of the national CommunityMark accolade.
