AGE 2019 heads to Sihanoukville, Cambodia
The Asia Entertainment and Investment Expo 2018 concluded in Phnom Penh on a positive note last week, 30 November, with the potential sales hitting the targeted $50m and investors expressing confidence in Cambodia’s business sector.
The three-day event managed to attract up to 3,000 visitors from all various countries around the world such as China, Singapore, Thailand, East Europe, US, Malaysia, Taiwan, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cyprus and Myanmar.
Jerel Soo, The CEO of WorldEx Trade Media Sdn Bhd, the organiser of the event, shared his view about the event in an interview by saying “it was a successful event and we managed to hit the $50 million target in terms of potential and confirmed sales that include gaming, equipment and entertainment categories.”
He further talked about how the entertainment and gaming sector is helping Cambodia, “Cambodia is moving in the right direction and the entertainment and gaming sectors can attract more tourists to the country and also reduce unemployment like in Macau, where the unemployment is very low.”
Following the success of this event and a huge demand from the international participants, the organisers are planning to host the AGE 2019 event in Sihanoukville, Cambodia next year- a city which has emerged as a major attraction for gaming investors on April being the Expo & Conference.
The expo themed “Realising Opportunities and Gearing Gaming Market for Future” was held at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel from November 28 to 30.
The event was commenced with the objective to attract investors in the property, franchise, gaming and entertainment industries, while, simultaneously promoting the latest technologies in the entertainment and gaming sectors.
The expo participants consisted of companies that are involved in e-payment, leisure, online gaming and service provider for the entertainment industry, while the conference was joined by the experts to discuss the issues related to the respective sectors.
“More investors from Europe are showing interest in Cambodia as the gaming market is a sunset industry in Europe. So Cambodia has the opportunity to position itself as key player in the region,” he added.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event last Wednesday, Ministry of Commerce undersecretary, Somheng Bora urged foreign investors to consider Cambodia as their investment destination as the country is experiencing rapid growth.
“There is a big push for development in Cambodia; there is a peace and rapid development.” He further talked about his passion about promoting development and invited the foreign investors to Cambodia, “I am passionate about promoting development and invite foreign investors to invest in Cambodia. The environment here is ready to accept your investments.” said Somheng.
The trade expo was carried out with the full support by the Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Economy and Finance.
