Unibet results boosted by mobile activity
Online gambling operator Group has cited a sharp increase in mobile-related revenue in announcing encouraging interim financial results.
In the six months through to the end of June, Unibet’s gross winnings revenue for sports betting totalled £49.2 million (€57.1 million/$74.2 million), up from £43.7 million in the first half of 2012. Profit after tax for the six-month period increased year-on-year from £16.4 million to £17.2 million.
'Our mobile offering continues to grow and is now over 19% of the gross winnings revenue compared to eight per cent for the same period last year,' Unibet chief executive officer Henrik Tjärnström said.
'Profitability in the second quarter was strong, taking into account sports betting margins slightly below the long-term average and also lower than the same period in 2012. The prior year result for the second quarter also included a number of acquisition-related one-off items with a net positive effect.
'Unibet’s focus on locally regulated markets continued with a successful launch in Estonia at the start of July 2013.'
In the second quarter of 2013, live betting accounted for 67.5% of turnover on sports betting, up from 58.8% the previous year, while the number of registered customers increased from 6.7 million at the end of June 2012 to 7.6 million at the end of June 2013.
'In the first five weeks of the third quarter average daily gross winnings revenue has increased by approximately 10% over the same period in 2012,' Tjärnström added.
