Australian gambling operator Tabcorp and newspaper publisher News UK are on track to launch a new online betting and gaming business in the UK and Ireland this spring, according to the Financial Times newspaper.

In December, the two parties unveiled plans to launch Sun Bets in partnership with News UK title, The Sun.

The new service will operate under an initial 10-year revenue share agreement, with News UK responsible for internal and external media promotion and Tabcorp providing the publisher with a share of revenue from the business.

The Financial Times newspaper has said that the service could go live in the UK and Ireland within the next six months, with a spring launch the target for both parties.

David Attenborough, chief executive of Tabcorp, said: “It is a natural step for us; we have worked with News Ltd. closely in Australia and built up a high degree of trust.

“They have one of the strongest brands in the UK with half of the UK betting population regularly reading or engaging with The Sun.”
