The Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), the national regulatory body for gambling in Spain, has announced that the country was able to record an increase in online gaming revenue during the three months through to March 31, despite suffering a drop in internet poker.

Gross gaming revenue in the first quarter was up 32.1% on the corresponding period last year to €102.3 million ($115.9 million).

Sports betting was responsible for 50% of online gaming turnover and 57.3% of all revenue in the country, with stakes jumping 33% year-on-year to €1.3 billion.

Revenue from casino rocketed 104% to €25 million, helped by a 90% increase in stakes to €899 million, as well as newly authorised slots, which generated €9.5 million in revenue during the first quarter.

Bingo revenue was also up 9.8% year-on-year to €2.2 million.

However, despite this growth, revenue from the Spanish online poker market fell 12% year-on-year to €14.8 million, with stakes down 18.2% to €411 million.
