Scientific rolls out virtual sports in Pennsylvania

Service will be land-based, with no immediate plans to launch online

Scientific Games has moved to take advantage of the expanding Pennsylvania regulated gambling market by launching its virtual sports services in the US state.

Working in partnership with Pennsylvania Lottery, the service will be made available across various retail venues, bars and taverns across the state.

The initial virtual sports offering will be branded ‘Xpress Sports’ and include motor racing and American football content.

Scientific is also working with the Lottery on its new online and mobile gaming service.

Drew Svitko, director of the Pennsylvania Lottery, said: “Virtual sports games appeal to Pennsylvanians’ passion for sports and, like all of our games, virtual sports games are supported by systems technology innovation.

“Our recent game entertainment expansion with Keno, iLottery and now virtual sports is already generating new funds to benefit older Pennsylvanians.”

Pennsylvania Lottery did not respond to a request from iGamingBusiness.com to confirm if the new games will be available online.

Pennsylvania is yet to launch a regulated internet gambling market, but the state last week did sign off on sports betting laws and also awarded interactive gaming certificates to three casino licence-holders in Pennsylvania, suggesting that full regulation is not far away.

Since going on sale on May 22, Pennsylvania iLottery online and mobile games have generated $51.3m (£39.9m/€44.5m) in sales, which the Lottery said makes it the most commercially successful in the US.
