Amaya-owned PokerStars has established itself as the leading brand in the New Jersey online poker market, claiming a 42% share of the cash game market and helping boost overall traffic in the US state by 30%, despite having only launched in the jurisdiction last month.

After a short soft launch period, PokerStars went fully live in the state on March 21, with the company reporting significant interest in its services.

According to data gathered by Onlinepoker.net, since PokerStars launched in the state, the average number of cash players over a seven-day period has increased from 320 to 430.

PokerStars is also the leading operator with an average 180 cash players over a seven-day period, ahead of rivals WSOP/888poker on 150 and PartyPoker with 100.

Rafi Ashkenazi, interim chief executive of Amaya, said: “I’m very proud of our employees, including those we have hired in New Jersey, who have worked diligently to prepare for the launch of a robust, stable platform backed by great customer service.

“We hope to continue our early positive momentum in the market as PokerStars NJ continues to roll out additional marketing and promotions.”
