Nevada casinos suffer year-on-year losses in January

The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has cited a drop in the number of baccarat players and a comparatively busy month at the start of last year as the main reasons behind a year-on-year drop in state casino winnings in January.

Total Nevada casino winnings totalled just over $925 million (€846.4 million), which represents a drop of 2.9% on the $953 million posted in the same month last year.

The state’s regulatory body noted that the amount wagered in table games during the month was down $415 million to $2.5 billion, with the $346 million won on such games 11.6% lower than last year.

In response to the losses, the NGCB noted that the state hosted a number of major sports events in January of last year, which helped boost figures in January 2015.

The body also noted that 8% of the overall casino winnings decline was down to a decrease in the number of players participating in baccarat games.

For the first seven months of the current fiscal year, casino winnings are up by less than 1%.
