Marseille signs up

Online gaming company has continued its busy summer of football deals by announcing a partnership with French Ligue 1 club Olympique de Marseille.

Under the three-year deal, covering the 2013-14 to 2015-16 seasons, the Bwin brand will serve as the official online betting and gaming partner of the club.

The sponsorship package includes a series of fan-based initiatives including opportunities to train with the squad and travel to Uefa Champions League fixtures. Additionally, Bwin will be integrated into Marseille’s digital and social media platforms and will receive branding exposure at the team’s Stade Vélodrome home ground.

Marseille and Bwin will develop online and conventional co-branded activities and are expected to collaborate on mobile phone apps and social games.

The Marseille agreement comes after Bwin last month sealed three-year partnerships with Italian club Juventus and Belgian team Anderlecht, while it has scaled back its shirt sponsorship of Real Madrid to serve as a lower-tier partner of the Spanish club.

The betting and gaming company’s European football portfolio also includes partnerships with English club Manchester United and Germany’s Bayern Munich.

Marseille general manager Philippe Perez added: 'With Bwin, we’re also playing in the Champions League in terms of partnerships. In the fast evolving French championship, ‘l’OM’ continues to be the most popular club in France. This sponsorship deal proves it.'
