Lottoland has acquired a majority stake in Italian online operator Giochi24.

Tge purchase coincides with the roll out of the new Lottoland.it Italian-facing platform, which launches via the firm’s newly obtained Italian licence.

Lottoland.it will enable players in Italy to buy a ticket and play major lotteries such as SuperEnalotto and 10e Lotto, as well as scratchcards, instant win games, bingo and casino games.

Lottoland now holds eight national gambling licences: three in the UK, two in Gibraltar and one each in Ireland, Australia and Italy.

“We are delighted to have partnered with Giochi24 and to enter into the regulated Italian market,” Lottoland chief executive Nigel Birrell said.

“Italy is a vibrant, growing market with huge potential and we are very confident there is a strong appetite for our jackpot offering.”

Paolo Di Feo, chief executive of Giochi24, added: “We are very excited to have partnered with Lottoland and the opportunities that will bring to both businesses.

“We are also thrilled to be able to provide Italian players with two sites, Giochi24.it and Lottoland.it.

“We are now in a great position to fulfil our mission – to have the most complete offering of games of luck and lotteries that are approved by the regulator and available to players in a simple and easy format.”
