Fifa imposes global ban on four English footballers

1 November 2013

Fifa, football’s global governing body, has handed worldwide bans to four English footballers and one Australian official following criminal investigations into allegations of match-fixing in Australia.

The global ban is an extension on the national ban the Football Federation Australia (FFA) imposed on the Victorian Premier League individuals last month. The banning order barred the individuals from taking part in football-related activities in Australia.

According to the Reuters news agency, the charges relate to the alleged running of a multi-million dollar match-fixing operation with betting syndicates in Malaysia and Hungary.
