Aristocrat has cited an impressive performance by its digital social gaming arm as one of the key reasons behind an expected year-on-year jump in profit during the six months through to March 31.

In a trading update the firm expects to post net profit after tax and amortisation in the first half of Aus$138 million (€88.6 million/US$100.6 million), which would represent an increase of 66% on the amount posted in the corresponding period last year.

Aristocrat attributed this growth to success in its digital social gaming division, as well as strong performances from US Class II premium gaming operations and Australian outright sales.

The firm also said that this level of growth is likely to continue during the second half of the year, which will in turn maintain its established trajectory for full-year profit expansion.

Jamie Odell, chief executive of Aristocrat, added: “Aristocrat delivered outstanding results over the first half of fiscal 2016, powered by industry leading content, talent, hardware and technology that translated into exceptional operational performance.

He said: “Our focus on growing share and profitability by investing in compelling product portfolios, targeted to priority segments and supported by improving execution, is delivering tangible and sustained results, despite generally flat and highly competitive market conditions.”

The company expects to release its full results for the first half on May 26.
