Denmark’s State-owned Danske Spil retail and online gambling monopoly has selected technology from gaming and sportsbook software supplier OpenBet Technologies Limited to power its new sportsbetting platform.

Danske Spil revealed that the OpenBet contract followed a competitive tender process and stated that it intends to launch the sportsbook offering by the spring with new platforms for ‘other gaming areas’ to follow soon after.

“We have performed very well on the sportsbetting market since the introduction of new gaming legislation in January and we are happy to establish that we are the Danes’ preferred sportsbetting provider,” said Jens Aalose, Chief Executive Officer for Danske Licens Spil.

“With OpenBet’s platform we intend to further strengthen our sportsbetting products with a much wider range of bets and improved functionalities for both pre-live and in-play betting. It is our constant ambition to compete at the highest level in the sportsbetting area.

“The choice of OpenBet is in line with Danske Spil’s information technology strategy, purchasing the strongest systems for each product line including hosting and further development.”

OpenBet CEO David Loveday added, 'As one of the most technically advanced lottery providers in Europe, this is a flagship project for us and we are confident we have the best product with the most flexible and scalable sports betting platform to enable Danske Spil to continue to strengthen their existing competitive advantage.'
