Leading online operator has revealed that it is no longer accepting business from players based in France.
British online and land-based gaming giant William Hill has followed Betfair in announcing that it has stopped accepting business from clients based in France following that nation’s introduction of new gambling laws.
France recently passed legislation that outlaws online operators not domestically approved from accepting wagers and William Hill revealed that it is still considering whether to apply for such a licence to offer permitted products.
“In conjunction with the changes to the regulatory regime in France, William Hill Online is considering whether to apply for a licence to offer permitted online gambling products to French residents,” read a statement from the London-based operator.
According to a report from the Reuters news agency, William Hill stated that its overall online business is continuing to trade ‘in line with management expectations’ and added that the impact from its withdrawal from the French market is not expected to be material.
