Ukash Comes To South Africa 

London-based e-payment processor Ukash has announced that customers in South Africa can now take advantage of its services, joining thousands of people across Europe at convenience stores, newsagents, post offices and petrol stations.

“Ukash is a practical and convenient payment method for those consumers who don’t have cards or have concerns about giving out their financial details online,” said Mark Chirnside, Chief Executive Officer for Ukash.

“We’re pleased to be making Ukash available from hundreds of conveniently located Shell locations right across South Africa”.

Ukash stated that over 200 terminals located in Shell Select shops across the country could now issue vouchers in values between $6.50 and $197. Consumers are then able to use a unique 19-digit code printed on the coupon to pay for goods and services online and avoid using a credit card.

“Ukash is already available to an estimated 226 million European Internet users who don't have or don't wish to use credit or debit cards online,” said Chirnside.

“I’m pleased that South Africa’s five million Internet users will now have the chance to use Ukash when they shop, play and pay online. A number of leading South African online stores will be going live soon, providing even more choice for consumers to spend their Ukash.”

Unlike some other pre-paid products, Ukash stated that its service is free of any charges or fees to the consumer and allows customers to avoid putting any financial details on the Internet.
