British interactive gaming firm NetPlay TV could be about to take advantage of recently relaxed guidelines from watchdog Ofcom to deliver the first interactive gambling offering for UK terrestrial television.
Widespread media speculation out this week has Guy Templer, the firm’s new Business Development Director, heading a dedicated team focused on targeting retail, television and online partners as part of a fresh strategy.
NetPlay TV has not commented on speculation surrounding the launch of its theoretical SuperCasino programme but the firm has an existing distribution relationship with UK terrestrial broadcaster Channel Five to provide its EuroTeleMillions Daily SuperDraw service.
Under new guidelines from British communications watchdog Ofcom, gambling programming has been reclassified as teleshopping, allowing broadcasters including as ITV, Channel Five to show such content between midnight and six o’clock in the morning.
Earlier this week, NetPlay TV released its preliminary financial results for the previous twelve months showing revenues more than doubled to £19.8 million. In addition, its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation hit £2.4 million for the year, compared with a loss of £1.7 million for the preceding financial year.
