Rees To Attend Asian Gambling Briefing

14 October 2008

London-based eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance (eCOGRA) has announced that Tex Rees will be taking part in a discussion on responsible gambling at the Asian Gambling Briefing in Singapore on Tuesday.

Rees is the player protection and standards body’s Fair Gaming Advocate and was invited to take part in a discussion on the importance of responsible gambling programmes and their relevance to social responsibility by organiser Beacon Events.

The panel will also include Macau-based Francisco Gaivao, Senior Legal Counsel for Melco Crown Gaming, and Professor Hao Zhidong, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Sociology for the University of Macau. Moderated by Panos Makridis, Responsible Gaming and Compliance Manager for Galaxy Entertainment Group, the trio will also discuss how Asia compares with other regions in the implementation of responsible gambling policies, best practices for exclusion problems and how to increase operator accountability.

Through eCOGRA, Rees mediates hundreds of player disputes every year and has also organised and hosted underage and responsible gambling training programmes for certified operators. She joined eCOGRA in 2003 and soon after established the body’s Responsible Gambling Requirements, which she continues to ensure are correctly implemented across over 100 leading online gambling websites and mobile operations. Rees was also responsible for coordinating and motivating industry efforts, which ultimately resulted in the International Responsible Gambling Code adopted by leading industry trade organisations and online gambling jurisdictions.
