The Poker Channel Expands Into Portugal

15 April 2009

Europe’s largest dedicated gaming television network, The Poker Channel, has announced the signing of two new distribution deals in Portugal only a month after its expansion into Poland with the Vectra Group.

The Portuguese distribution agreements were signed with MEO, the nation’s fastest growing operator, and ZON Multimedia, the largest digital cable network operator in the country.

As a result, The Poker Channel will be available around-the-clock to MEO’s basic subscribers on channel 77 while ZON’s extended basic subscribers will have access on the same channel number later this month.

'We’re delighted to be launching in Portugal with such strong partners,” said Chris White, Commercial Director for The Poker Channel.

“It’s an exciting time for poker in Portugal, home to some of the world’s best pros, including Joao Barbosa, Andre Santos and Ricardo Sousa, and we’re proud to deliver top gaming entertainment to new audiences.”

Programming highlights for the Portuguese launch will include the Cash Game Master Class, a ‘how to’ series, alongside the PokerHeaven European Cash Game, a high-stakes cash game featuring professionals such as World Series Of Poker champion Peter Eastgate. The Poker Channel is also set to broadcast action from the World Series Of Poker and the World Poker Tour.

The Poker Channel is now available on major cable and satellite platforms in 18 European markets and attracts close to one million unique viewers per month across the continent with 65 percent of these participating in online poker daily.
