Online games software provider Microgaming has signed a multi-year licensing agreement with America’s Warner Bros Digital Distribution to create a series of online video slot titles based around The Lord Of The Rings trilogy of films.
The Isle Of Man-based firm stated that the deal gives it permission to develop slot games using animation material, themes and characters from The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King.
Microgaming stated that this agreement comes soon after the launch of Hellboy, its latest flagship branded video slot, and illustrates its commitment to license the right brands at the right time. The firm revealed that this contract is a strategic and timely decision to secure the exclusive online video slot game rights to a trilogy that generated three billion dollars in worldwide box office receipts while being nominated for a total of 30 Academy Awards.
“We’re excited about creating state-of-the-art video slots from the best movie trilogy of the decade,” said Roger Raatgever, Chief Executive Officer for Microgaming.
“We look forward to bringing The Lord Of The Rings into the online gaming sphere, where our expertise in game quality and speed to market will ensure its success.
“The Lord Of The Rings has a huge entrenched fan base with over 97 percent awareness of the film franchise as well as phenomenal and unprecedented home video success.”
