12 January 2009

Leading betting and gaming provider Bwin Interactive Entertainment AG has announced that it has become the first operator to receive authorisation that will see it offer real-money skill games online to the Italian market.

In late-October, the Vienna-based firm launched poker for Italian players at its online site at Bwin.it utilising the new P5 Poker Engine developed by its Ongame Network subsidiary.

Following last week’s approval from the Italy’s Amministrazione Autonoma Dei Monopoli Di Stato (AAMS) regulator, Bwin will now offer eight real-money skill games at Bwin.it including solitaire, blackjack, three-card poker, yatzy, Eldorado, Formula 0.01, backgammon and eight-ball billiard.

“As the world’s leading online gaming company, Bwin continues to fortify its position in the Italian market as a genuine ‘house of games’ with sports bets and online poker and now also with real-money skill games,” said Norbert Teufelberger, Co-Chief Executive Officer for the Austrian firm.

Bwin is not unknown in Italy after signing a deal in 2006 to serve as the exclusive jersey sponsor for soccer club AC Milan. The ‘Rossoneri’ are one of the most popular and successful team’s in Italy with 17 league titles, second only to Turin’s Juventus who have won ten more, and Bwin also advertises extensively around the side’s Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
