Antiguan Minister Remaining Optimistic 

The Finance Minister for Antigua and Barbuda, Errol Cort, told the Antigua Sun newspaper last week that he is still confident that the country will be added to the UK's advertising ‘white-list’ for online gambling.

The Minister and a delegation from the Caribbean island nation met in London with officials from the UK in January and returned confident stating that their exclusion from the list would be reversed even though no such change has occurred so far.

“My delegation left that meeting feeling very optimistic that we would be in a position to address the very small outstanding issues raised by the UK,” said Cort.

“We felt more than comfortable that this is a matter that will be resolved and we look forward to the UK putting Antigua on its ‘white-list’ in the not too distant future.”

Antigua and the Canadian jurisdiction of Kahnawake remain excluded from the list of licensing jurisdictions that British authorities regard as acceptable for gambling companies seeking to advertise in the UK. This means that those online gambling companies registered with the Caribbean islands cannot legally advertise services in the UK, a decision that was made following an extensive review of the twin island state’s Internet gambling regulations.

Areas already permitted to advertise their services in the UK include Alderney, Malta, Gibraltar and the Isle of Man along with the Australian state of Tasmania.
