ALC Asks For Proposals

21 April 2009

Canada's Atlantic Lottery Corporation (ALC) is planning to expand its online gaming portfolio and has invited software firms to submit proposals for a new Internet player account management system and sportsbetting platform.

ALC has been operating lottery games in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland And Labrador since 1976 and is jointly owned by the government’s of the four Atlantic provinces. It announced gross ticket sales of $471 million last year and also runs an online sportsbetting service under the Pro-Line brand with profits returned to the provinces for their general funds.

“Today, ALC is viewed as a very successful and industry leading organisation and, in order to remain relevant to our players, we must deliver what the player wants in the safest and most entertaining way possible,” read a statement on ALC’s website.

“In order to do this, the ALC is issuing this request for proposal to invite interested suppliers to submit a proposal(s) for a new Internet player account management system and Internet sportsbetting platform, which will be used extensively by ALC to enhance and build on our current product offering and will assist us in delivering the most entertaining, player focused and responsible products for our players.”

The bidding process is scheduled to close on May 6 and taxes gleaned from online sportsbetting could result in a huge windfall for the four Atlantic provinces as they look for their share of the enormous sums generated by offshore betting firms.
