888 Holdings has announced that its 888.com brand has signed a one-year deal that will see former Spanish national team footballer Santiago Canizares serve as its official European ambassador.

Best known for his ten-year spell as goalkeeper for top La Liga side Valencia CF, Canizares was also capped 45 times by Spain.

The 41-year-old retired in 2008 after playing 500 league matches and has since taken part in several races for the Spanish Rally Championship while also commentating for the Canal+ television network.

888.com, which is the umbrella for the 888Casino.com, 888Poker.com and 888Sport.com domains, is set to utilise Canizares in order to increase its brand awareness throughout Europe.

“The partnership agreement with Santiago Canizares will bolster the 888.com brand presence in Spain and beyond and we are delighted to have a sportsman of his calibre on board,” said Itai Pazner, Senior Vice-President for 888.com.

“We are fully confident that our exclusive partnership agreement with Canizares will be beneficial to our 888Casino.com, 888Poker.com and 888Sport.com brands.”
